November Fixtures

On Sunday, we were fortunate enough to be invited up to the Tyne where we joined Edinburgh and Durham for a friendly fixture. This was a brilliant opportunity for us to close off our Autumn training block kick-start our Winter training with a bang.

On the women’s side, we fielded two 8+’s, a 4-, and a 4x, and on the men’s side we brought up three 8+’s, a 4x, and a lwt 4-. We brought the most boats out of the three clubs competing, showing how much depth we have been able to develop in multiple boat classes this past year.

The morning started with a 5km time trial, which then placed us into categories for some afternoon side by side racing over 1k. All of our boats put in a strong performance in the time trial, especially our top eights who managed to close the gap to Durham and Edinburgh compared to previous years.

The side by side racing was exhilarating for our athletes, being our first race starts of the year. The lightweight men’s 4- demonstrated some incredible speed off the starts against their competition and the men’s 1V showed some real grit against Durham and Edinburghs 1Vs. The women’s 1V showed some really mature racing; after consistently getting nipped off the start, our girls held on, pushing through the 500m mark to hold contact and even push back on the competition.

A big thanks to Durham and Edinburgh for the fixture and a special thanks to Durham for hosting us! Onto Christmas camp…
